Manchester Adams Park
One of the great benefits of living in a small town is that it gives volunteers an opportunity to make a huge impact on the community. Adams Park, a key triangular parcel of land downtown was tired, overgrown and neglected. In 2009, the town of Manchester asked Sustainable Design to create a new vision for the park to revitalize its use and include the local farmers’ market. We took this opportunity to heart, created and presented a design that was not only beautiful, but also one that is handicap accessible, incorporates walking paths, benches and tables to encourage the park’s use. The paths of the new park were carefully laid out in such a way to be the perfect permanent site of our weekly farmers’ market. Besides doing all of the design work pro-bono, we also donated and planted some perennials in the park, helped with the installation of the new marble stage, paths, sod and trees. Today, seeing the new park in all its glory and constant use, it is hard to imagine that the park was once forgotten and ignored!
